Welcome to Our Maine Coon Cattery in Norway!

From the fjords of Norway to the heart of Europe – love travels with every kitten.

Under the names Raumariki’s in Norway and Echoes of Midgaard in the Netherlands, we bring together the best of two worlds. Having catteries in both countries means more flexibility, easier travel arrangements, and kittens with beautifully diverse bloodlines.

Every kitten grows up in a loving home, surrounded by care, so they leave us healthy, confident, and ready to fill their new families with joy.

About us
and our start

Raumariki’s Maine Coon Cattery is a Norwegian cattery with a Dutch cooperation, founded in 2020. Behind the cattery are founder Annika Østli Rubach and her Dutch partner Henrie Benning. Together we strive to produce healthy, loving kittens in every color.

Annika’s background with animals is wide:
“I do not think there are many animals I don’t have experience with. From stick insects, tarantulas, snakes, bees, ducks, geese, rabbits, rats, dogs, ponies, horses and more. I love animals and see the beauty in them all. I have had cats most of my life, but after I met Henrie in the spring of 2018, it sparked a love for Maine Coons. At the time Henrie had three neutered male Maine Coons, and I simply could not get enough of them.

In 2018, I lived in a temporary rented apartment where cats were not allowed, no matter how sweet they were or how many times I asked. So when I moved in 2019, my first Maine Coon moved in just a week after the couch.

I originally went looking for a white female for breeding because I felt this was my calling – something I wanted to do as a hobby. A bit inexperienced and too quick to decide, I ended up with the sweetest cat from a breeder. He turned out to be a male and was later neutered. How could I run a cattery when my partner lived in another country?!

Then came Jorah – long-legged, curious like no other, and an absolute joy. He traveled with me back and forth between Norway and the Netherlands by both plane and car, and it worked out wonderfully. No problems with the other cats in the Netherlands – what a relief!

I quickly noticed how much he loved being in the Netherlands with the others, and he seemed quieter when at home in Norway. Soon after, cat number two, Sega, joined us as company for Jorah. Sega wasn’t suited for breeding either, but she was the perfect companion. In hindsight, it might have been smarter to begin with the white breeding female I was searching for, but those first experiences taught me valuable lessons.

In 2020, Urzie (Urzula Gentle Predator BY) finally arrived – my very own breeding female!
Urzie came from Belarus, and she was a true sight for sore eyes. From the moment I saw her as a tiny kitten, I knew she was the one.

Then Covid happened, and it was a pure miracle we managed to get her home just in time, before everything shut down – and so our journey could begin.”

🐾 Maine Coon:
Breed Highlights

Origin: United States, State of Maine, But here is a fascinating and romantic bit of breed lore! The Viking Cat Connection

Legend whispers that Maine Coons may trace their roots back to the seafaring Vikings.
It is believed that Norse sailors brought long-haired Norwegian cats — ancestors of the Norwegian Forest Cat — aboard their ships to control vermin. When they arrived on the rugged shores of New England, some of these cats are thought to have stayed behind and interbred with local short-haired cats.

Over generations, this pairing may have helped shape the Maine Coon:
a hardy, long-haired cat with a thick, weather-resistant coat, tufted ears, and a powerful build — perfectly suited for cold climates, just like their Scandinavian predecessors.

While the tale remains unproven, the similarities between the Maine Coon and Norwegian Forest Cat add intrigue to this possible shared heritage — a blend of myth and natural adaptation, befitting the Maine Coon’s majestic presence.
